With all the details and plans and budgets that go into wedding planning it’s easy to overlook some of the littlest things that can make you happier and make your wedding run more smoothly. However, today at the Happy Bride Project I’d like to tell how one of these “little” things can make a big difference in the overall ease of your wedding day. . . engagement portraits.

Engagement portraits happen sometime before the wedding day itself so don’t have to be actually associated with your engagement itself. Sometimes when I shoot destination weddings and the couple lives in a different state than I do, we might even do the “engagement” session a few days before the wedding itself!
The idea of the session is two-fold: 1) It gives you a chance to have professional portraits taken when you are in your more natural environment or more casual than you will be on your wedding day. 2) It gives you a chance to “practice” and feel more comfortable in front of the camera so that it will feel more natural on the wedding day. (This is good for both you and your photographer because your photographer can help you correct small things that you do in pictures, such as pulling your chin in too close or blinking every time you hear the shutter click, so that you won’t do those things in your wedding pictures).

There is also one other SECRET reasons that engagement portrait sessions are a must for Happy Brides. . . they are really, really FUN! My wedding couples always tell me that their engagement session was like a really fun date. You go to a beautiful or fun place, snuggle up to each other and laugh a lot. What engaged couple wouldn’t love more of that?
